The
SPLITWAVE hydrofoil represents a unique innovation as the worlds first Twin Tip
hydrofoil for use in kitesurfing and wakeboarding. The patented
technology generates the ultimate "hoverboard"
thrill, coupled with the smoothest ride you will ever have!
The hydrodynamically engineered foils lift the board above
the surface of the water, reducing friction to attain higher
speeds.
Unlike any previous hydrofoil boards,
SPLITWAVE is a twin tip, allowing the rider to tack in both
directions with ease, never having to ride toeside. As can be seen below, the foil generates lift even when there's not enough wind for white caps - the perfect lightwind weapon!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The
two carbon fibre foils generate lift from a pressure differential between the fluid flowing over the top side and lower sides of the foil blades. The physical principles involved are exactly the same as a airplane wing.
The SPLITWAVE foil takes its inspiration from the super-stong hexagonal molecular structure of Carbon - the very same structure that makes diamond so tough. The twin foils work together to enhance stability,
and the unique "V" configuration self-regulates the height at which the foil rides; this reduces unwanted "porpoising" effects.
The foil blades
are supported by foiled carbon struts which connect to a
custom built board, developed specifically to work with
the hydrofoils. The board has high stiffness generated by
a carbon stringer which puts the rider in perfect control, an oversized rocker
to assist in takeoff, and embedded stainless steel inserts
to transmit forces from the hydrofoil. The entire assembly
is modular, and so can be easily disassembled for transport.
